The year already seems to be off to a fast start and our big adventure to New Orleans is creeping ever closer.  Our youth have been busy the past month with their “Getting Ready” series as they prepare for their time at the Youth Gathering.

In February we focused on the second piece of our Created to Be Theme which was Authentic.  We focused on the idea that we are created to be authentic, to bring our whole selves and know that we are loved by our Creator.  As a group you can feel everyone coming together and getting more comfortable within the group.  Conversations flowed easier, laughter was more genuine, and bonds are being created.  Our reading for this session was from Matthew 5:14-16.  We conversed about this reading from the New Living Translation and the Message Translation.  Feel free to ask a Youth Gathering Participant about what stood out to them as they listened and how they feel it means to be truly authentic.

In March we will continue with our next focus of the Created to Be Theme, Free.  We will also continue to prepare in other ways including through a few final fundraisers to complete the final push to our goal.  So please mark your calendars for the following two dates:

  • April 27 – Mardi Gras Dinner hosted by our Youth Gathering Participants. This will be a ticketed dinner that includes a plated dinner and entertainment with the fun and color of Mardi Gras.
  • May 18 – Indoor Yard Sale – We will once again be hosting an Indoor Yard Sale in the FLC from 9am to 3pm. It’s a great opportunity to start that Spring cleaning a little sooner and set those gently used, unwanted items to the side.  We will begin collecting items for the sale on Sunday, May 12 and through out the week.  **New this year – we will NOT be accepting any clothing or textiles (sheets, rugs, table coverings, etc).

We are getting ever closer to our New Orleans adventure and are excited for all of the amazing opportunities we will have as we visit the city and come together with 20,000 youth from all over the country.  Please stay tuned to see what we learn next!
