Matching Funds
We’ve had some questions about matching funds from employers so let me address some issues to answer questions and avoid problems. Many employers will match your gift to a qualifying organization so, please, check with your employer to see what might be available. Matching funds are a great way to magnify your gift!
Our Towns Habitat for Humanity is a fully-qualified, 501 (c) (3), non-profit organization. This status will generally satisfy whatever requirements your employer may have for matching your gift. As for specific procedures, these steps usually arise from the employer’s requirements. Just check with your employer for their needs.
Be sure to make it clear with your gift and with any other forms or correspondence that you intend for your gift to benefit the St. Mark’s Lutheran Habitat House. It makes no difference to OTHFH if the funds go into their General Fund or the St. Mark’s Fund. All of these dollars go for building. However, if they don’t know any better, the funds will go into the General Fund.
Additionally, the employer’s matching donation could come at a different time and/or from a different location. So, it is important to designate our project on the check and on any paperwork. Ideally, let me know about a gift (even if you want to keep the amount private) and I will follow up with OTHFH to see that they receive it and that it is allocated correctly.
Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. Remember that this project happens one dollar at a time!
